Northern Wisconsin is the place I have always called home. I was born and raised in the City of Superior to a hardworking family from the historic East End. Throughout my life, I have been deeply inspired by my parents. My father, Jack, and mother, Char, both former public school teachers, are two of the hardest working people I have ever known.
Growing up, my parents taught me many lessons, the most important of which was treating others as you would like to be treated. I know what it is like to grow up in a working family and I plan to put those hard working values to work for us in Madison.
Some quick facts about my background and experience:
-
Graduated from Superior Senior High School and enlisted in the Navy.
-
Served in the Persian Gulf and was awarded the Southwest Asia Service Medal and a Letter of Commendation.
-
Graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Superior in Biology while continuing to serve in the Naval Reserve.
-
Over the last decade I have worked as a biologist with state, federal, tribal, and private sector natural resource and conservation organizations.
-
First elected position was on a regional board that works to reduce mercury pollution in the St. Louis River Watershed.
-
Currently serving my second term on the Superior City Council. As an independent voice on the council, I have taken courageous stands in support of working families and opposed new fees that disproportionately affect those that can least afford them.
-
Recently elected to serve as an international representative to the Lake Superior Binational Forum. Working with diverse interests to protect and restore the environment, while providing for good jobs, is valuable experience that I will bring to the table in the legislature.
